Gel water - the fourth form of water
Eat your water
I have always been fascinated by the important role of water for human beings. Water, oxygen and light are the primary sources of life, and with a very high component of water in the human body, water is an important element for our well-being.
Gel water, desert water, vegetable water, structured water, silk water - there are many names for the water, that you’ll find in e.g., a cucumber. This kind of water also makes up most of the water in the human body. It’s called gel water.
”"Eat your water" is not something we hear ourselves say to our children,
but maybe we should?
I am always drawn to research regarding water, and some time ago I read about the bioengineer Dr. Gerald Pollack's great work with water - and his discovery of "the fourth form of water". Previously, liquid, solid (ice) and vapor was the recognized forms of water, but Dr. Gerald Pollack has now added the fourth form: Gel water.
Anthropologist Gina Bria encountered something similar in her work with desert regions and hydration. How do the desert people keep their bodies hydrated in the desert, she asked herself. It turned out that e.g., the Incas and Aztecs were not looking for water on their desert wanderings, but instead they were looking for plants. Desert plants such as Chia, Cactus and Yuca all have a high content of gel water, which proves to be a much better form of hydration for humans. This type of water is not called H2O but H3O2.
Gina Bria tested it on her 92-year-old mother, who had trouble maintaining an optimal level of hydration. She claims that crushed chia seeds in the mother's daily orange juice completely solved the problem, until the mother died as a 98-year-old.
A third expert, Dr. Dana Cohen, author of the book Quench, a book about gel water, writes: "Because most of the water in our cells has this gel structure, we believe that the body absorbs the gel water better and that the water is released continuously, which also improves absorption."
I could write a very long article on this topic, but if you google "gel water", you will find many articles and Youtube videos on the subject. The most important thing for me with this article, is to shed light on something as magical as water. Let’s take it next level!
How?
It is very easy to ensure that we get the hydrating H3O2 water in our diet. We already get it every time, we eat vegetables. But we can also do it ourselves by e.g., to add crushed or whole Chia seeds to your water, after which the structure of the water changes.
Therefore, we can drink less, but absorb more, and thus the, for me, marvelous journey in understanding human health is infinite.
How to make hydrating gel water
- Add 1/2 tsp. crushed or whole Chia seeds in a glass of water*
- Leave the jelly water for at least 15 minutes or overnight
- Siew the water if you prefer that it is without the chia shells
*You can crush the Chia seeds in a blender, grinder or in a mortar. You can advantageously crush the contents of a whole bag of Chia seeds at once, so you have for future use.
How to use hydrating gel water
- You can drink it like it is
- You can add the moisturizing drink to your smoothie
- You can use it in bread, porridge or other meals where water is used
H20 vs. H302
If you add fruit, Chia seeds and/or vegetables, the molecular structure of the water (H2O) is transformed into H3O2 due to an extra hydrogen and oxygen atom. The gel water is charged by electrolytes and is the same as the water in our cells, which means that when you ingest gel water (H3O2), it is more easily absorbed by your cells than H2O.
About Chia seeds
Chia seeds are packed with healthy omega-3 fatty acids (2 tbsp. Chia seeds contain more omega 3 fatty acids than a piece of salmon fillet). Chia seeds also contain antioxidants, proteins, calcium and dietary fiber, which strengthen the body and skin.
I am a self-proclaimed "water-pusher" - because I can’t help but try to inspire to focus on a well-hydrated body as the source of well-being. For the same reason, we write STAY HYDRATED - DRINK WATER, on all Karmameju Skincare products, because it is also ever so important for our largest organ: The skin.

Typical signs that you lack hydration in the body
- Dry skin with fine lines and wrinkles.
- Lack of elasticity in the skin.
- Dry lips, mouth and tongue.
- Headache.
- Indigestion.
- Dark yellow urine. Your urine should preferably be light yellow.
- Insomnia, and fatigue in the middle of the day.
- Crawings for salt and sugar.
When does your body need extra hydration?
- When the weather is hot and humid.
- If you spend time in thin air at great heights.
- After consuming alcohol.
- When you are in a room with air-condition or radiators for a long time.
- Before, during and after physical activity.
One tip I often pass on is: If you have sugar/salt craving, try eating some cucumber to see if it really is the salty snacks your body wants. Your body is most likely just thirsty for more gel water, which by the way also is a part of our fascia - our connective tissue - our skin.
As always, when I write about water, I am tempted to end with a:
Cheers!
All the best
