Our guide to your home spa

At Karmameju we are strong advocates for home spas and self-indulgence. It is so important to slow down once in a while and turn your focus inward. Create some beneficial self-loving rituals, especially when things around you seem chaotic.

Step 1.

Create a cozy spa atmosphere in your bathroom. Light a couple of candles, turn up the heat a bit, fill a little dish with healthy snacks (raisins, nuts, fruit), fill a pitcher of water with lemon or cucumber slices or make a cup of your favourite tea, put on some calming music, and let yourself unwind.

Step 2.

Start by closing your eyes and taking five deep breaths. Deep, calm breathing has a positive effect on our body, skin and nervous system. It is said that five deep breaths can beneficially affect the nervous system for up to four hours.

Step 3.

If you have a dry brush, start by brushing your entire body. If not, then rub yourself down vigorously with a dry towel. Dry brushing helps to awaken the body and stimulates the nervous system, lymphatic system, removes dead skin cells and activates blood circulation.

Step 4.

After dry brushing, take a contrast shower shifting between hot and cold water. The benefit of contrast showers is increased blood circulation. The warm water makes the blood veins expand and relax, while the cold water makes them contract. Remember to breathe deeply the whole time. That makes it easier to get through the cold rinses. Choose a body wash with a scent that suits your mood.

Step 5.

End your shower with a salt body scrub treatment. Turn off the water and spend some time massaging the scrub into your skin with circular movements to exfoliate your skin thoroughly. Avoid your upper chest and other delicate areas. Let the body scrub remain on your skin long enough for the benefits of the salt detox to work. Rinse off gently and let the nourishing oils remain on your skin.

Step 6.

Pat your skin dry with a towel and massage your skin with your favourite body oil or body lotion.

Step 7.

Time for a face mask. Start by applying a little oil or balm around your eyes and lips so that the skin in the areas where the mask is not applied gets treated too. Then apply the mask to your face, neck and upper chest. Avoid the eye area and lips. Leave on the mask for the time recommended on the product label, and then remove the mask with a warm, damp washcloth.

If you have Karmameju’s face masks and would like to try double or triple masking, apply them in this order for excellent results.

Start with PROUD exfoliating face mask

Next apply DEEP peeling mask.

Finish off with DREAM creamy clay mask.

Step 8.

While giving the face mask time to work, you can lean back and relax. File your nails, read a magazine, meditate or just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Step 9.

After you have washed off the face mask, give yourself a relaxing face massage with a face oil that suits your skin type. Leave the oil on your skin and apply the skincare products you prefer to finish the process. Rub a good hand cream on your hands. Drink a tall glass of water, with fresh lemon juice if you like it, and be sure to drink a lot of water throughout the day.
